It’s the first day of February and I’m so excited, because there are only 13 more days until Valentine’s day! I know Valentine’s day isn’t everyone’s favorite day, but ever since I’ve had someone to share it with, I just can’t help but get excited about it! But that’s not what this blog post is about…
This morning, I woke up to this picture text from my mom:
My dad’s remodeling his garage (aka his sanctuary) and that’s when he and my mom rediscovered this piece of the garage. My first set of hands and one foot print, made on Fabruary 16, 1995… and I continued to put a few more prints on there each year after that.
He wanted to take one panel of the cabinet out, so he could put something else there, but he didn’t want to get rid of my handprints… So instead, he took the one in the middle out, and replaced it with the handprinted one, which took him 7 hours. JUST so he could keep my handprints. 🙂 (The replacing part is what pounded on the extra hours.)
When I was little, and would see that my dad had a bucket of paint open, I would ALWAYS ask if I could play in it. Of course, my mom would say no, because it would make a mess, but once my mom would go back in the house, my dad would say “okay, hurry before mommy sees.” So I would step right in it like I was getting into a bath tub. On this specific day though, I was playing in the paint bucket right next to this cabinet, and my dad said I could put my hand prints all over it, so I did! For me, I was just having fun, but for my dad, it was a sentimental thing, because he knew one day he would like looking back on those handprints when I would no longer be a little girl.
My dad’s a big softy, so when my mom sent this to me, I could already picture my dad getting teary eyed after looking at it. And yesterday, my dad texted me saying he heard our song on the radio. (1,000 years by Christina Perri.) So to say the least, my parents miss me a little bit. haha.
I sat here trying to figure out what I was going to write about today, and after about 10 minutes, I thought expanding on this picture was perfect. Since it’s the month of love, I figured a little piece of father daughter love was appropriate. 🙂
