I’ve had such an obsession with gold lately, and it first started when I added in my desk area. After that, I couldn’t stop thinking of ways to incorporate gold into my living room! Then I saw multiple gold coffee tables on Pinterest, and specifically, one from Ikea that could be spray painted gold, so of course, I just had to do it. I sold my previous coffee table, and then went and bought this table at Ikea (my favorite store.) The table was originally black, which I obviously ended up spray painting gold. The table tray on the table was spray painted gold, but now it’s white! If you read this post a few days ago, I had mentioned I wanted to switch it to white, so I did, and I like it sooooo much better. There was too much gold in one area, and I wanted the tray to go with the white candles and striped blanket.
I had read a blog post from someone who did this exact thing, and I used the same spray paint she had suggested. In her picture, it looked like the perfect gold, but when I spray painted mine, it looked terrible. It looked like the color of a penny, which just didn’t go with my color scheme at all. But first, let me take a selfie. HAAAA I crack myself up. Ok really… But first let me show you the before picture.
And now here is the difference between the two spray paints. (The copper looking one looked much darker in person, but I had to lighten the picture a bit)
The next day, I re-spray painted it and it looked exactly how I had pictured it in my head! (Cody took this picture below as I was painting it because he said he knew I’d be doing a blog post on this… and he was right!)
The copper colored spray paint is: Rustoleum’s Metallic Gold, which I DO NOT recommend. The one I ended up switching to was Krylon’s Short Cuts Metallic Paint in Gold, which can be found at Michael’s. (And no, they didn’t have bigger bottles, so I had to buy 6 of these small ones lol.) I also suggest buying extra spray paint, because after spray painting one thing gold, you WILL find something else to spray! (I sprayed my candle stick holders on my TV stand, too.)
My mom also decided to get this beautiful side table with a vase and flowers to match the coffee table! The angel was from the house, which she’s had for years. Last weeks 200+ earthquakes/aftershocks really scared her, so she told me I needed to keep this Angel in my apartment. Awwwww.
And here’s one more view of the finished product!
