Mint & Red

Guys! I’m so excited, because I will be in Chicago tomorrow! In case you haven’t stopped by in a while, Cody and I are going to Chicago for his birthday. He loves to go on trips, so planning one is usually what we try to do for his birthday. I’ve never been, so I can’t wait. I will definitely be taking a bunch of pictures while we’re there, which I am already excited about making a blog post all about it. (You can see our San Francisco trip here.) If you guys have any recommendations of places we should go or what we should do, let me know! We have a list of things already, but I’d love to hear if you guys have been and if there is a specific place you loved.
P.S. Only 2 days left to enter my Alex + Ani Giveaway!

Shopping? In and around Water Tower at 835 N. Michigan of course. High of only 50 and windy.

    • Hayley Larue says:

Definitely will be shopping, so I will check that place out! I get cold so easily, so I’m hoping I have enough warm things packed! :)

  9. Dannie says:

A little off the beaten track but still in the thick of things is Pick Me Up Cafe. It’s in Wrigleyville, pretty much smack dab between the Belmont and Addison red line stations. They’re the most delicious diner ever. I highly recommend their vegan cheese fries or the french toast!

If you’re looking to visit the Lakeshore and don’t want to deal with people. I recommend the Kathy Osterman beach over any of the ones near the loop. Take the red line north to Thorndale and then just walk east. You’ll literally just run into it. That’s my favorite one. Almost nobody is ever there!

As touristy as it is, I highly recommend the architecture boat tours. You pick those up downtown. Michigan Ave & the river on the north side of the river, just head down the steps.

I honestly recommend doing your bar hopping in Boystown down Halstead between Belmont and Addison. You’ll have way more fun visiting the gay bars versus the super bro-y ones in Wrigleyville.

Or for a quieter night out, Andersonville. That’s red line to Berwyn and walk west for about 10 minutes. Super cute, lots of bars and restaurants. My favorite area of the city.

Lincoln Square is also really great. Take the Brown Line towards Kimball and get off at Western. Super adorable area.

Street fests aren’t in full swing yet, otherwise I’d recommend some of those.

I also recommend seeing some theatre while you’re here. Not the big touring stuff in the loop but smaller theatres. Check out The Den in Wicker Park (Blue line to Division, walk Northwest down Milwaukee). Find some Improv, see a storefront show. This is the town for small theatre and comedy!

I don’t THINK you have a dog but just in case you do, be aware that there’s strain of dog flu going around. It doesn’t affect humans but if you have a furry friend with you, try to avoid letting them meet other dogs. [this has been a public service announcement]

I think that’s it. I have so many suggestions for how to do Chicago right. I can’t wait to see what you make of my city!

YOU ARE AMAZING!! Thank you so much for the suggestions, I will for sure be writing these down so we know where to go. I am obsessed with anything that has the word Cafe in it, so I’m glad you mentioned Pick Me Up Cafe. So want to go there!

I won’t be bringing my dog with me, which I was sad about, but now that you mentioned the flu going around, I’m glad we’re not bringing her! Knowing that she’ll be safe at my parents house makes me feel much better!

Seriously, thank you so much for all of these recommendations and details of all of them. Can’t wait to show Cody once he gets home! Thank you! <3

Currently in Stockholm but raised in Andersonville. Some tips. Walking shoes. Dress warm. No false eyelashes please. I don’t think you are an el person. Cab it if you have a mind to visit the neighborhoods. Wish I knew where you were staying in the city.

    • Hayley Larue says:

I’ll definitely be dressing warm! :) I don’t wear false eye lashes, but I do have lash extensions, so I can imagine they will be going crazy in the wind. lol.

Love the sweater and white shorts combo, so relaxed but beautiful at the same time. You look so different with the red lip color! More like 50’s movie star? You’re gorgeous in pink lipstick but this red definitely suits you as well. I want to wish you guys a wonderful vacation in the Windy City, have fun!!

    • Hayley Larue says:

Thanks Maria! I was SO, so close to putting on my pink lipstick for this outfit! I was literally staring at it for 10 minutes debating between the pink and the red hahaha. Thank you for the well wishes! <3
