My Experience Getting Lip Fillers

So last week, I disclosed on Instagram that I got lip fillers about 3 months ago, and I ended up getting a lot of questions about it, so I wanted to type up a post to answer some of them, and to give you guys the full details. I also am totally open about it, because I don’t feel like it’s something I should hide.

I’ve hated the size of my lips for a really long time, and I began getting more self conscious about them when I started blogging. Why? Because I spend 4-5 days a week editing  photos of myself on Lightroom. I actually have thought about fillers for a good 3 years now, but never thought I’d actually do it because the thought of needles going in my lips?! Ugh, made my heart race. lol. So towards the end of last year, I brought it up to my mom, and she was like… Ummmm, HELL TO THE NO. (She says that about most things and then gives in. She said the same thing about the permanent eyebrow makeup, and then she ended up getting her eyebrow makeup done with me lol.) I kept bringing it up every once in a while, and I’d be like, “mom, we live in the most superficial state in the world, and I live in the most superficial city, it’s normal.” Ok but on the real… She ended up telling me my cousin was a nurse at a plastic surgeons office, and that I could get a discount there, sooooooo I booked an appointment in January of this year.

My first appointment, I went with a half syringe of Juvaderm. I loved the results directly after and was obsessed with how they looked… Until two days later when the swelling went down and my lips looked just as small as they always did. I was REALLY bummed that I didn’t do a full syringe. So my advice for anyone getting lip fillers: a half of a syringe is not enough to give you the results you want. Yes, you will look like a clown for two days while they are swollen, but they go down a good amount, especially if you drink coffee every morning (blood thinner.)

About a month later, they allowed me to come in again, and this time, we went with Juvaderm Ultra Plus (lasts much longer and it’s thicker,) and I did a third of a syringe. The nurse that does mine is amazing. She will not let you look like a duck. She actually suggested I put the rest of the fillers in my smile lines because she didn’t want me to go over board in the lips, since I technically still had half of the other juvaderm in there, so that’s what we did. Since you can only pay for a half or full syringe, I had to use up the rest of it somewhere, since we only did a third in the lips. Results are instant with fillers, and my lips looked gigantic. lol. But I knew the swelling was going to go down in two days, and after those two days, I LOVED how they looked. Even my mom was like “I’ll admit, they look really good.” I honestly recommend them to anyone. It can definitely be pricey (I had to pay full price the second time,) but it was so worth it to me. I love my lips!! I feel more confident and am so, so happy I ended up going a second time.

Now the main question: Did it hurt? Yes and no. Yes, it feels so weird having needles going into your lips and it’s very uncomfortable, but you’re honestly so excited to see the outcome, you kind of don’t think about it. Personally, I prefer the pinching feeling in my lips, than in my mouth when the dentist has to numb me. (That shit hurts.) The nurse also numbs your lips for about 10 minutes before starting, so it’s really just a pinching feeling.

Where do I go? Dr. Gordon Sasaki’s Office in Pasadena, CA. The nurse that does mine is Natalie.

wow they look amazing! I love how open and confident you are about it. I have a question, what is the maintenance like? I assume its NOT just one and done right? Is it a monthly thing? Yearly or what? Also any weird side affects down the road as we age? Thanks for being open about this! Hope you have a great day, loves!

Thanks so much, Jenessa! <3 They can last anywhere from 6 to 9 months, or even up to a year! I only went again after one month because I felt there wasn't much of a difference from before after my first appointment. But I haven't gone in since February, and they are still looking great in size! As far as side effects with aging, as long as the nurse or doctor massages them right after injecting, then you should be fine! When they massage it, it moves it around so that it doesn't turn out looking bumpy, and so they can spread it evenly for the most natural look :)

I think it looks fabulous and I think it seriously rocks that you’re so open about it, because you’re spot on, its not something you should ever feel you have to hide! We wear makeup, we dress ourselves up, we dye our hair, why would this be any different? You look awesome, girl <3

Thanks Clarissa!! I totally agree! As girls, we do SO many things to make ourselves feel more confident, and even through this involves a few needles, it’s no different than all of the other enhancements we give ourselves :)

Thank you so much! I definitely searched and searched for information on google about this before going in, so I figured it could ease the minds of those who have thought about this, but were nervous, just as I was! :)

You are so beautiful and the lip fillers look amazing! Also it’s always comforting to think that someone as stunning as you also has insecurities…

I just sent this link to my close friend who’s been thinking of getting lip fillers. I know she will love this personal and information-packed article!

If she gets them, I have to admit I’m gonna be kinda jealous… I have naturally big-ish lips but I’ve always wondered what I’d look like with the massive, almost-inside out looking Angelina Jolie kind lol. I’m not allowed to do anything to my appearance while I’m officially modeling but maybe I’ll try it as a treat to myself when I retire haha
